Wholesale Nursery Plant Suppliers in Maryland and Illinois

A one-stop shop for your native plant restoration, reforestation, wetland, and landscaping needs.

From a Backyard Nursery to Projects Across the Country

American Native Plants started as a backyard nursery in 1998. Nearly 30 years later, our inventory holds more than 500,000 native plants and we have supplied millions of native plants for projects across the country.

That growth has always been connected to a larger purpose: helping restore biodiversity by making native plants, knowledge, and support more accessible. Today, American Native Plants supports wholesale and large-scale planting projects. Through Direct Native Plants, we also serve homeowners and smaller-scale landscapes.

What we grow

Regionally appropriate native trees, shrubs, and herbaceous plants, at volume.

Who we grow for

Conservation organizations, utilities, municipalities, and contractors.

Project types

Restoration, reforestation, and sustainability-driven planting, including grant-funded and compliance-based work.

Native plants strengthen ecosystems in backyards, communities, infrastructure, and large restoration sites. Our role is to make the plants and support behind that work more accessible, whether the project covers a few acres or thousands.

Practices That Protect Your Planting Window

You always know what’s available and when you can get it.

A dedicated inventory manager maintains same-day visibility into live inventory, so we can quickly confirm what’s available and what can be ready for your planting window. We also provide photos and confirm height, caliper, multistem counts, and provenance from live inventory data.

We grow without neonicotinoids

American Native Plants does not use neonicotinoids, a class of insecticides known to harm bees. If your grant or program requires neonic-free stock, ours qualifies. Where treatment is unavoidable, we use the minimum necessary chemicals, usually in the greenhouse, or predatory insects instead. Native plants feed and shelter native insects; we leave those relationships alone.

Seed is stratified and started year-round

Crews stratify seed, a pre-treatment that prepares seed to germinate, and start new plantings through the year. New crops begin in response to incoming orders and contract-grow projects.
