What We Grow

Wholesale Herbaceous
Native Plants

Find wholesale sedges, perennials, rushes, wildflowers, and more for restoration, wetland, and landscape projects.

Herbaceous plants are the ground layer of many planting projects.

When plantings span an entire site, project success can hinge on those plants arriving in good condition and on time. At American Native Plants, we grow and deliver native herbaceous plants at scale, ensuring healthy plants arrive when your project needs them.

Sizes & Formats

Herbaceous Plant Sizes and Growing Options

We grow herbaceous native plants in three formats: plugs, quarts, and #1 containers. Each format adds growing time and root development, so you can match plant size to your site, schedule, and specifications.

Plugs (72-Cell Trays)

All of our herbaceous natives start as plugs. Weather permitting, these smaller plants are often planted directly into properly prepared sites.

Tray: 72 cells, sold as full trays

Cell size: 1.63″ × 1.63″ × 2.38″ deep

Quarts

Quart containers give herbaceous plants more growing time than plugs and a chance to develop a solid root system. If your specifications call for a larger, more established plant, quarts are the middle step.

They can usually be produced from plugs in about 3 weeks. Timing depends on the season and starter-plant availability.

#1 Containers

Standard #1 containers grow herbaceous natives to just about full size, ready to plant on arrival, so the planting looks finished at installation. Depending on the time of year and starter material, #1 plants can be produced in about 6 weeks.

Volume: 1 gallon (holds about three quarts of soil)

Dimensions: 6 1/2″ diameter × 7″ tall
